Cafe Racer Definitions

Alot of time is spent on definitions and questions. Like what makes a Triton? Is my bike a cafe racer. Well there will always be exceptions to the rule but here are the definitions...for better or worse.

Classic Triton: This is a Norton featherbed framed pre-unit Triumph powered, drum brake stopped 60's period piece. It can be no less.

Triton: This is a Featherbed framed, Triumph powered machine...some tasteful updates possible when done in the spirit of the 60's.. i.e. dual disc front ends.

Classic Cafe Racer: This again is a period piece, has to have clip ons, drum brakes. But is unlimited by engine/frame combos.

Cafe Racer: As with the Triton above it has to pay homage to the 60's but only has to have clip ons to really play the part.

Street Tracker: This motorcycle is a stripped down to nothing that doesn't have to be there. And would look at home at Ascot once the lights are stripped off!

Bobber: This is any stripped down bike that doesn't fit in the Street Tracker profile. Stock rake but can have artistic elements.

Chopper: Well if I have ta tell ya, ya wouldn't understand..but in a nutshell the only mostly mandantory item it needs is a raked frame.

Race Replicas: These are your Daytona/Selly/North Rocket bikes

Street Fighter: Think of it as a cafe racer evolved. Any new technology that the builder can adapt to make his bike mutate into something that can hold its own against the brand new bikes goes!

Resto-mod: This is a bike that has bolt on modifications stock frame. I lump the Truxtons replicas in this catagory.

Well I am sure that some will disagree...so beit. But if you stand back and look at things you can see the trends clearer.
